CASE STUDY

Andile, 24, is a forward-thinking woman who loves to keep up with the latest beauty and style trends. She has noticed that there are many freelancing stylists in her community who are really good at what they do. But there’s just one problem: not many in the community know about them and how to get in touch with them.

Most people spend their day on their devices and so Andile thinks it would be a fantastic idea to create an app where all these stylists could be showcased, along with customer ratings and contact details. It would provide exposure and make it easier for those in the community to locate a stylist who is not only nearby, but who can deliver on a specific service.

Andile starts by doing informal surveys, finding out if her peers would be keen to use such an app. She takes a short course on app design and follows online video tutorials. She then gathers information from various stylists and takes some photos. She creates a mock up of her app and asks friends and family to check it out.

She considers their feedback and tries to smooth out some bumps in her app.

Finally, Andile launches her app and sends the link to her various Whatsapp contacts and asks the various stylists to promote it to their current clientele. She always uses her Instagram and Facebook pages to market her app.

Entrepreneurship

I am a serial entrepreneur and I have been vegetarian for 14 years now. In a nutshell, I start businesses, grow them and retain some ownership before decelerating from all the operational duties involved.

In addition, I am a complete lover of nature. I turned vegetarian at 18 years old. And my mother introduced me to hiking in my teenage years. So, I take random walks in the bushes every now and then. It definitely helps with decision-making in business, too. But it is not all that I am. I am also an aspiring father, husband and Vegan. Did I mention I am Christian?
